Description
Photographing in Sukhothai was an incredible experience. Mind-blowing architecture and giant Buddhas abound. People of Thailand are very proud of their heritage and this is certainly evident throughout their fine country.
From the internet...This Thailand Buddha is called Phra Atchana. Wat Sri Chum was built about 700 years ago and forms part of the Sukhothai Historical Park which is now a World Heritage site. The Phra Atchana is located in a square mondop, and the face of the statue is visible from the front. The walls of the mondop have a series of stucco reliefs depicting the lives of the Lord Buddha.
The Phra Atchana Buddha image is a perfect example of Sukhothai Buddhist art and is exceptionally beautiful. Like many of the Thailand Buddha statues in Sukhothai, the Phra Atchana is in the subduing Mara or overcoming evil position. The Phra Atchana was constructed with bricks and laterite blocks which were covered in plaster and stands 15m high and over 11m wide.
