Description
I don't often describe how one of my photographs came to be but I will make an exception here. While on a photography outing with my friend Pal we met a ranger who told us about a relatively unknown "Triple Waterfall' on the Elbow River in Alberta, Canada. We went down late in the evening to take a look. It was a lovely Canadian scene for sure. I described to Pal how I wanted to shoot this with a canoe in the rapidly flowing water. So...We made plans to do it. A very steep drop was negotiated using ropes to protect ourselves. We lowered the canoe with a rope to the bottom of this "cliff". Pal was somewhat older than myself but, as was often the case, he was more than willing to dress up in his Mountain Man gear and "give it a shot". After photographing many different scenarios of Pal paddling we then had to get the canoe and ourselves to the top of the steep area. We were met by Pal's wife Carla. As the day we chose to do this shoot was Thanksgiving Day she had prepared a FULL TURKEY MEAL at home in Calgary and had driven out to Kananaskis Country to feed the hungry and somewhat fatigued men. We sat in a meadow in the warm autumn sunshine and consumed the delicious meal. My wife Vivian had joined us as well and it was a memorable and enjoyable time to be sure. This is the photograph of Pal on a very good day.
This month Pal passed away in Calgary at the age of 90 years...He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Pal had many adventures in his life and this was but one that I got to share with him...Cheers Bob
