Description
Light caresses the dunes at Stovepipe Wells, California. The Mesquite Dunes in Death Valley are a favorite location of mine to visit and to photograph. They are quite accessible so an explorer can get out in the midst of the best locations for early/pre-sunrise and late/after sunset photography. Often the dunes are trampled by the hundreds of visitors that have the same idea but with enough time and patience as well as finding spots where the wind has cleared the dunes of footprints images such as this one can be made with no trace of Man. It is a peaceful setting and is especially lovely in the morning light as well as the evening light. This image is an evening shot...in the morning the scene will be different as the shadows and bright spots are reversed. In Death Valley hope for wind...it erases all traces of human activity.
