This is JAWS...Maui, Hawaii
My inspiration for photographing surfers came from Big Wave Surfer Laird Hamilton who produces some wonderful action sports films showing the beauty of this extreme sport. This off-shore break known as "Jaws" only occurs when you have the right conditions with at least 28 feet of swell. Here a surfer is fortunate to have the opportunity to surf at this world famous location. I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to see and photograph this fine wave and the surfers who are up to the challenge.
This individual has an extreme lifestyle but also has the skills necessary to pull it off. One small mistake can have big consequences. Those that are caught will be punished. Hawaii and its surfing culture are both world famous. Waves at the Pipeline and Jaws are legends. People from all over the world come here to enjoy the water and the sun and the sand. Access to the beaches and the waves is excellent. People are friendly and generally welcome photographers and other artists who wish to portray them on the waves and on the beach. Whether you seek images of the beach life or extreme action my galleries should help you find what you are seeking. For those of us who love action and the lifestyle has something for everyone.
