This image is of Maligne Pass in the back-country of Jasper National Park in Alberta, Canada. This image won nationally in Canadian Geographic and Canadian Parks and Wilderness photo contests. Maligne Pass is in a remote area. I was on an 8 day backpack and had a very long day. I had been at this location on a previous trip and so I thought I may get some good light at sunrise. I woke up and dashed to the spot where this image was made...set my tripod up in the middle of a sandbar in the creek and was rewarded with this incredible light. The mountains seemed to be on fire. As this was taken several years ago I photographed this scene on slide reversal film so I only had a few chances to get it right. I hope you enjoy the image as much as I enjoyed taking it.
